Journaling Ideas For Reaching Your Dreams
Many participants from Living The Dream events and Floyd’s corporate retreats have shared that they have used a journal as a companion to their dreambook. Because journaling can be a useful complement to working with a dreambook, the Floyd team prepared this document with a few ideas as well as some suggestions from people who have read The Dream Manager and use a journal with their dreambook.
Questions for reflection and journaling The below questions can serve as good thought starters for beginning to write on topic or beginning to use your journal for the first time. Use the below questions to help you start writing and as an opportunity to learn more about yourself and the pursuit of your dreams.
- Reflect on what it will be like to achieve a dream. What will you feel? Who will be with you? What will the process of getting there be like?
- Reflect on the people who have helped you live a dream. How did they serve you as a Dream Manager? What were the ways in which they encouraged you and held you accountable?
- How do you want to help others live a dream? How can you serve others as a Dream Manager?
- Write about your dreambook. How has your dreambook helped you to learn about yourself or expand your list of dreams? How do you want to use your dreambook and make it a useful tool for your life?
- How will living a dream change your life or change the experience of your life? What will be different once you achieve a particular dream?
- Of the dreams that you have achieved, which ones have meant the most to you? Why?
- Reflect about what you can do to live a dream. Consider one of your larger dreams to achieve – maybe a dream to achieve in one to five years or five+ years. What path will you need to take to accomplish that big dream? What actions will you need to take? What obstacles might you encounter and how will you deal with those obstacles? Who can help you stay on track and offer encouragement?
- Brainstorm different ways to keep yourself motivated. Are there small rewards you can give yourself for taking action towards your dream? What other techniques will help you maintain your enthusiasm?
- Chronicle the pursuit of a dream. As you begin working on accomplishing one of your dreams, write about your experiences of working toward this dream each week or each month. Record the steps along the way. How do you feel as you work toward your dream? Who encourages you? What comes easy and what requires extra work as you carry out your plans?
- Write about your experience once you have lived a dream. After accomplishing your dream, record some observations. What have you learned about yourself and the pursuit of your dreams? What will you do differently the next time you are pursuing a dream? How can you share your insights with others as they begin pursuing their dreams?
